Michael's Everyday Activities

Michael occupies most of my day time. If I can keep him busy with activities I can do my chores continuously. But most of the time he's always beside me snooping with just anything I'm doing. Here are just some photos of how Michael's day goes by. Believe me he does a lot more than these ;-)

Playing while watching Barney on dvd

Art activities

Singing karaoke and playing in the sandbox

Find the Experts Through ClickSmart

My life runs on the internet. If I want to find directions to a place I've never been before, I always consult the internet. If I want to look for the best local steak house or if I crave for some sushi, I just click the good old internet for the nearest restaurants. If I want a plumber, a carpenter, or an electrician, it's more convenient to look for one in the internet rather than the yellowpages. ClickSmart is where I get the certified experts I need for certain jobs, they are pre-screened already so that saves me the time to do it myself. I recommended ClickSmart once to my bestfriend who lives in North Carolina when she and her husband were looking for a house to buy. And she was glad to have found Charlotte Realtors and Real Estate Agents in the list. The Realtors in Charlotte were pre-screened and certified to have successfully completed at least 10 transactions in the past year, so my bestfriend was confident to use any of the realtors in the list. She was happy about my recommendation that she still uses ClickSmart for other house work that she needs.

Trying To Be Frugal

Where did September go? September went by so quickly, tomorrow is October already, exactly 86 days to Christmas. When I think of Christmas I think of a long list of Christmas presents to buy. Every year during the holiday season, we get-together with friends and their families to celebrate the season and we always exchange gifts and shower the kids with gifts as well. But I suggested to some friends last week that maybe we should not bother giving gifts to each other anymore, to just let the kids have presents to open. We need to be practical in times like this when we don't know what will happen in the future. I can feel the effect of the economic downturn and its not a good feeling. I try to be frugal as much as I can. I don't make unnecessary trips outside of the house anymore. I always plan the day, if I need to get out of the house then I will try to do everything while out like run errands, grocery shopping, rent or take back books to the library, etc. to save gas. I buy in bulk from warehouse store because its cheaper by the bulk. I use store brands too because they are not only cheaper, they are also made by the companies who make the popular brands so they're still the same, only the packaging is different. And we don't eat out as often as we used to and that saves us big time. Anyway, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to change lifestyles before its too late.

So Fascinated with Cars

Tuesday is when we go to Michael's Gymboree class, I left the house quite late today so we arrived at the place about 10 minutes through the class already. And to make matters worse, Michael didn't want to get off the car, he wanted to climb up to the driver's seat and I was like pulling him out of the car while he was screaming. I wonder what the people who saw us at the parking lot were thinking about the scene. Anyway, this is his new habit now, as soon as I unfasten the belt of his car seat, he will immidiately jump down and squeeze himself through the driver's seat. When I go around to get him on the driver's side he will jump to the passenger side, and vice versa. He has taken his fascination with toy cars to the real car and this is not funny anymore. Winter is coming soon and it would be a hassle when he acts this way in cold snowy weather, tsk, tsk.

Beach Cruiser Bike For Hubby

My husband's passion is biking. He used to bike everyday after work for several miles. He has quite a lot of biking gears and accessories and four different kinds of bicycles in all. He kind of rubbed off this thing about biking on me when we went on a summer trip to Vancouver, Canada where we biked in and around the city where we stayed at. It was quite an experience and I thought I couldn't do it but I did. Despite four bikes he still wants to have one of those beach cruiser bikes to complete his collection of bicycles. And since we are planning to go on a road trip from MA to SC next summer, he can use the cruiser bike in the beach in SC. He is actually looking into buying one already at CruiserStyle.com

Friday Playdate

Yesterday, my girlfriends came to the house and we had some impromptu playdate for our kids. We haven't been all together in a while and the kids have grown quite a bit. It was pouring down rain and it didn't stop them from coming still. We had lunch of two tilapia dishes and fruit salad for dessert. The kids enjoyed playing while watching cartoons at the same time. It was hard to take another souvenir picture again here, because when one kid was ready for a smile, the other two weren't. It was hard to get their attention at the same time, but we still managed to get another memory they will enjoy to look at when they're grown-ups.

Apple Picking Weekend

Over the weekend we went apple picking at Belkin Family Lookout Farm in Natick, MA. It was a very lovely day, not too cold and not too warm either so perfect for apple picking. Unlike other orchards though where you don't need to pay to get in, here in Lookout Farm we paid quite a lot, $40 to enter and enjoy the facility. I guess it's all worth it after seeing the joy and excitement in my son's eyes. We had to ride a train to go in and around the farm, so my train-obsessed son really had the time of his life. He almost didn't want to get off anymore. It was our first time to go apple picking as a family and the first time for our son to actually enjoy the experience. Last year I was still pushing him in a stroller on the bumpy stretch of the orchard in Rhode Island, so this time was a lot esier for me too. Anyway, we didn't pick much fruits because you have to pay $2.50 per pound. You can actually pick grapes, pears, peaches, and plums too aside from apples. The smallest bag they have was a 15 pounder, so imagine if we filled that up then we had to pay $37.50!. Anyway, I can't put a price on seeing how my son enjoyed running around, playing in the kids area, petting the animals, climbing the hay pyramid, going around the burlap maze, climbing up the tree house, sliding and more. We just let our son experience picking his own fruits. He picked 2 pears, 2 apples and 5 plums.

He Is So Into Dada

I went for a doctor's appointment yesterday and left my son with hb to watch while he worked from home. They had quite a bonding time together, they went grocery shopping, hb fed him and changed him and put him for a nap. When I came back they were already playing together. And before bedtime, instead of just kissing dada goodnight, my son requested that he stayed with dada in bed, while I work online. They watched tv, horsed around, giggled and screamed. When I went in to get him they're both sleeping and snoring already ;-). Actually this was the second night in a row that Mikey slept in our bed with dada. He likes to bounce up and down on top of dada and play with his belly button. No wonder he was so tired and dozed off easily. He is so into dada lately, which is fine by me because I can breathe and relax for just a bit.

The Wonders of Preserving Stem Cells

There are times when I get discomforts and pain during my menstrual period and if days like these happen I would just sigh and wish I would not have another period soon. But my view on the whole thing changed when I found out how this menstrual fluid that I dread to having each month would be a powerful instrument to save someone's life in the future, and that someone could be myself or a person I love. This is an amazing breakthrough on preserving stem cells found in women's monthly menstrual fluid, minus the intrigue of human embryonic stem cell research. C'elle is a service that provides a non-invasive, non-complicated, safe and easy method for women to collect and preserve stem cells found in their menstrual fluid. The collection of menstrual blood is very easy and women can do it right at the comforts and privacy of their own home because C'elle provides them with an easy-to-use collection method accompanied by a clear and understandable directions, and mailing instructions. The wonders of stem cells in women's menstrual blood may be used to treat life-threatening diseases that she or a member of her family may have in the future such as osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease. This is such a great investment that will not diminish in value! if you want to know more about how to order the C'elle service, you can check their order now page and the pricing page.

Six Things About Me

This is a meme that I've done a long time ago, but since a new blogger buddy, RL Flamingo of Flamingo Musings tagged me again, it would be nice to let new friends know more about me.

1. Link to the person who tagged you (see above).

2. Post the rules on your blog (this is what you are now reading).

3. Write 6 random things about yourself (see below).

4. Tag 6 people at the end of your post and link to them (This is only a game)

5. Let each person know they have been tagged and leave a comment on their blog

6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up

Six Things About Me

1. I can hardly tolerate food with ginger but love green tea with ginger.

2. I am claustrophobic and have fear of height - my husband missed some rides and featured attractions in Disney World because I was too scared to be in them.

3. I would go to a mall with a list of things to buy and come home with different items in the bag, mostly kitchen wares and anything for the house and recently scrapbook materials.

4. I love to organize and rearrange furniture in the house every so often to avoid monotony. It takes a while for me to get things done around the house but if I have company coming or party to be hosted, I can flip the house in a heartbeat.

5. I love a good book and movie, I can read/watch without getting up if they are really interesting. I cry easily too if I'm touched by the story, even if my husband says its not a sad book or movie ;-).

6. I am very direct and confrontational when the situation calls for it. But I choose my battles also.
You’re it: Loannah, Cathy, Liza, Tita Beng, Vhiel and Mize

Designer Jeans For Less

I wore designer jeans all the time when I was still single and up until the early years of my marriage. But when my son arrived, I became very budget conscious and would rather buy stuff for my son than splurge money on myself. But my love for designer jeans never left me. Few inches and several pounds later, I still want to buy and wear designer jeans but I would look for the Cheap Jeans to get more savings. I found Heavenly Couture, the answer to my desire to wear designer jeans that are budget friendly. Heavenly Couture specializes on high quality women's clothing that give you savings of up to 85% and where you can find everything like Teens clothes for $17.95 or less. But Imagine saving even more on designer jeans and just pay $13.80? I can save up to 93% on wide selections of designer jeans and that really got me very excited. Now I can wear again the jeans that I love at very affordable prices. I won't feel too guilty about getting what I want without sacrificing the household budget pot. Heavenly Couture is now my favorite site for Discount Clothes. My budget will really go a long way with Heavenly Couture.

Impromptu Shopping

I went out to shop with my gf around 6pm. We didn't plan it at all, she just dropped the Agar-Agar powder I asked her to buy for me. She was headed to Kohl's to shop and I thought of going with her too since I got a coupon for 15%. I still have some stuff I needed to buy to fill up the box that I will send to the Philippines. Well as always I ended up buying more for myself and at least got one from the list, LOL. I got four blouses and a pair of shoes on sale, and I think I will come back again tomorrow since my coupon is still good until then. I was just in a hurry because I was already missing my son. Anyway, after shopping I invited my gf to have dinner at home. We had left over enchillada, stuffed mushrooms and purple yams all courtesy of my other gf.

Great News For Fitness Minded Moms

Sometimes the choice to become a stay-at-home mom to raise young children is tough especially for families who live from paycheck to paycheck. Even finding a well paying part-time job to help in the household expenses can be tougher and can add more stress to the already stressful life of motherhood. But there is hope for health buff and fitness minded moms to earn money while doing the routine that they love. If you are into health and fitness routine you can look into getting a job related to personal training. Do you know that fitness training is ranked by CareerBuilder.com as the #9 part-time job of 2008? So obviously more and more moms are finding out already how they can put their love for fitness training into profitable endeavor. However, in order to become a personal trainer in US you need to get certified. And getting a personal trainer certification is not time-intensive or expensive at all, in fact some students can finish the course faster and start earning money sooner. The earning potential is very promising, you can earn about $22 to $45 per hour if you do training sessions at fitness facilities or you can also opt to work for yourself and earn so much more. If you venture out on your own, you have more control over your hours, clients and place of work and therefore give you a good balance between work and motherhood. A fitness certification is your pass to pave the way to a career in fitness training where you can earn money while improving your own health and that of your family.

Hopefully Next Week

Yesterday I went to RI supposedly to go apple picking with my gf and her son, but unfortunately the first orchard we went to was only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the next one was already closed. So hopefully next week, schedule permitting, we'll do it earlier this time so we can have more fun. Actually my excitement is already building up not much for my own experience but for my son's. I'm sure he will appreciate it more this time and enjoy every minute of his experience. Because unlike last year when I was still pushing him in his stroller up and down the long bumpy stretch of the orchard, (it was such a chore!), this year he can already walk on his own and a bit independent too and can express much already, so I'm sure he will enjoy the experience too. I can't wait for next week!

Teach Kids to Go Green

It's not too early to teach our kids to care for the environment, in fact we should expose them as early as they can absorb it, to the idea that we should protect the planet so that future generations will enjoy it as well. It may start with using eco-friendly clothing and accessories that are made of organic materials; toys and games that are made of recycled materials; and other environmental-friendly kids stuffs that you can get at Fresh & Green. I'm an advocate of recycling and believe it or not, I'm already teaching my two year old son on how to separate the recyclables from other household wastes. I know it is in his best interest to know how recycling can help preserve the environment and green kids like him are needed to make a healthy and clean living environment. By the way, since my son loves to play in his sand box, I will get him the Sand Play Set that is made of recycled milk jugs I found at the Eco Kids and Tweens section of Fresh & Green website, how clever!

Last year too we went quite late already like at the last part of October so not much good stuffs were left in the trees. But I hope we're not too early too, ha ha ha. Anyway, since hb is going straight to his class after work, I won't hurry back home to prepare dinner. This will be one fun time.

Made-to-Measure Suits at Off-the-Rack Prices

Buying suits should not be so hard as there are a lot of off-the-rack suits available in every mall. But you just have to make do with what available style they may have in the fabric that you like or the style that you go for but not necessarily in fabric that appeal to you. But what if you can have a Made to Measure suits with the style, fit and your favorite fabric all in one package? You must think that that would be very expensive and won't be able to afford. But I'm talking about suits from MySuitNY.com that are made-to-measure but at off-the-rack prices, so it is very affordable.

At MySuit, purchasing a made-to-measure suit is so easy and you will be guided by a consultant through the process of measuring, styling and fabric selection until you are completely comfortable with your MySuit experience. When I took the tour
of the MySuit Experience in their site I immediately noticed how thorough the measuring process is because they take 30 measurements in all to make sure that you get a better fitting and better looking suit. The style of the suit depends on the type of jacket and pants that you prefer and your consultant will help you with the combination of style elements and details as well. The final step is the fabric selection and you can actually see the swatch for color and pattern. As soon as you're done with the selection, everything will be reviewed with you and the suit will be priced.

I would love to see a 3-button jacket with notch lapel and a single pleat pants in
black stripe 100% wool premier fine fabric on my husband to add to his wardrobe. This will be easily accomplished in a two week turn around time at a price that starts at $495. So if you want to have made-to-measure suits that fit very well and in style and fabric of your preference, that you can afford most of all, make an appointment to visit the store now at http://www.mysuitny.com/make_an_appointment.asp.

What Will You Do If Your Young Daughter Got Pregnant?

I got the chance to talk to a dear friend today who until now is still very devastated about her daughter's unexpected and untimely pregnancy even if the baby is already six months old now. Well who would not be, when your daughter was just few months to graduating from school and then decided to quit out of shame? So that's a double whammy right there. Well you see the culture in the Philippines being a predominantly Catholic country is, getting pregnant without the benefit of marriage is taboo. Also expect to be the talk of the town by gossipers once seen in public with growing tummy and no wedding to speak about. It's like you owe every people you will encounter an explanation on how and why it happened. Out of shame my friend had considered taking her daughter to a far away place to shield her from the probing eyes of nosy people and then reappear with a new addition in the family. But do you think that would have saved them from gossips, nah ah, that will just induce another topic for conversation by the gossipers.

Anyway, my take on this issue is, in as much as you can not undo what has been done already, and marriage is definitely not the solution to the problem (the daughter is not willing at this point to marry the guy as she wants to finish school and hopes to work abroad, which was the original plan in the first place) then you just have to accept the situation. Ignore what other people will say about you, as it is not their business to judge you based on what happened. It's not a reflection at all on what you are as a parent if something like this happened to your child. My friend didn't falter in any way as a mother, she did everything she could to be there for all her kids when her husband is away earning money for the family. In fact I admire her for being such a hardworking, dedicated, loving and caring mother.

But children, you mold them with good words and examples and then you set them free in this world to take their own journey. As you set them free you also let them make their own mistakes and choices to mold them and make them better individuals. Parents can only do so much for their children, if children make wrong choices along the way, then it's not the end of the world for everybody. Just let this chapter in their life be a learning experience for everybody.

LASIK Transformation

When I visited my family in the Philippines last year, I also grabbed the opportunity to meet with some of my college buddies. It's been a long time since we last had the chance to get together so I was so excited to see them. After over twenty years, we sure looked different physically but one buddy of ours really stood out. I've always known this buddy as a pretty girl hiding behind her prominent thick eyeglasses, so seeing her with her bare beautiful eyes showing for the first time ever was such a lovely sight. She was doubly excited to tell us how LASIK procedure transformed her life.

I've heard so many great things about LASIK in fact I even considered it once before but was just reluctant to go ahead with it for fear of possible side effects. But recently I read that LASIK technology is already being used by Department of Defense (DOD) and NASA to improve the vision of their specialized personnel that perform extreme and physically demanding tasks. They validated the fact that LASIK procedure exceeds all established standards of safety and effectiveness. Unlike the earlier version of LASIK which used only one laser, the modern LASIK called iLASIK Procedure uses two lasers. The first laser which replaced the handheld microkeratome blade used in older version, is used to create a thin flap in the cornea while the second laser is used to make the correction in the cornea. This two-laser iLASIK procedure provides exceptional safety and excellent visual results.

But who are considered a good candidate for the procedure? Although there are conditions that exclude certain patients to get the procedure, majority of people who are at least 21 years old and are in good general health are in fact good candidates. So if you are considering to get an iLASIK procedure like I do, get more LASIK information and determine if you are a good candidate by visiting iLASIK.com and taking the iLASIK quiz.

Cleaning Up For the Weekend

I've been a busy bee since I got up this morning., never got the chance to sit and even check my e-mail until now. I am cleaning up for tomorrow because we have some friends coming for a get together dinner. They're actually officemates of hb and their spouses. Since I just got better from a cold, I haven't really lifted much finger to do stuff around the house except for the basic ones. So you can just imagine how clutter after clutter are piling up on the counter, on the table, on the floor, and in practically any space you can land anything on. Toys, books, magazines, mail, junk mail, groceries, empty boxes, cooler, lunch bag, backpack, you name it. Sometimes I just feel like screaming and hoping things will get to their proper places ;-). Oh I just love company coming over to visit, they trigger me to get my behind off the computer chair and do chores instead ;-)

It's All Mine

When my girlfriend and her toddler McKale came for a visit one weekend, I laid out all the toys in the family room for him and my son to share. These toys have been sitting in the toy bins and Mikey has never touched them in a while. But when McKale started to get excited with the toys that he of course didn't see often, Mikey began to show interest in them and grabbed everything that McKale got hold of. He didn't want to share, in his eyes everything was all his.

I read that to a toddler there is no yours, mine and ours - there is only "mine".
When toddler just began to grasp the concept of ownership, the toddler has not yet grasped that it can apply to others too. But possessiveness at this age in no way predicts a lifetime of selfishness. Grabbing from others and holding on to one's own possession is just another normal manifestation of a toddler's need to establish autonomy and identity, to test boundaries and stand up for his or her rights. Toddler's possessiveness is not only normal, it's a necessary, essential step on the road to sharing.

Unless children are given the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate ownership, they have difficulty learning to share. "Owning" comes long before "sharing" on the toddler developmental scale. Most children understand owning by the second half of the second year, but don't learn to share until they are 3 or 4. They don't also grasp the concept of "lending" and "borrowing". They don't grasp the idea that when you let a friend use something you own that you get it or use it back. They equate giving with giving up.

So while I know its natural for Mikey to object to sharing at this point, I also want to begin teaching him how to share. And that will be my topic for my next post. Stay tuned ;-)

Under The Weather

I haven't been feeling well since Sunday. I have stuffy nose, congested chest and headache. Then my son caught it yesterday and even got slight fever until now. I also sneeze a lot and uncontrollably wet my undies, oops I've got tons of pantyliners don't worry ;-). I woke up with a splitting headache radiating from my left nostril going up my left eyebrow and left temple. Hb said that I might have an infected sinus. It's hard to be not feeling well while taking care of a sick toddler. I want to sleep and rest but he wants to be cuddled. It's good thing that he's taking liquids unlike the last time he had fever when he didn't want to take anything at all. Anyway, it's only the second day of September and I'd say not a pleasant way to start the month. But hopefully we get well soon.
