Emergency Rooms

So I'm into the thick of things trying to finish my online course. My forte is accounting so it's exciting and also overwhelming to learn new things like medical terms and anatomy and also about insurance terminologies and codes. I love learning things about insurance most of all. From where I came from it's not very customary to have a health insurance coverage, we normally do pay-as-you-go kind of thing. But the upside of it is unlike here in US where you have to go through your primary care provider to get a referral for whatever medical concerns you have, in the Philippines you can just go to any doctor that you need on a first-come-first-serve basis. So basically you can get help sooner and faster. No need for your doctor to check with insurance companies whether the medical procedure you need is covered or not to ensure their payment for the service.

Once I had a medical emergency due to profuse bleeding. My neighbor rushed me to an ER only to wait there for over 5 hours to get help. The first thing they were eager to get was the information about my insurance coverage. Of course they checked my vitals too but didn't really care much after that. My husband kept going back and forth to the nurse on duty to ask when a doctor would see me, but the nurse replied that there were people with more serious condition than I had. It turned out I would need two bags of blood for transfusion because I lost too much blood already. I was confined for the night. It would have been better if we called 911 to get medical attention than wait in the ER to die.

Anyway on the other hand, my husband was so amazed with how the ER in the Philippines worked for him. He contacted amoebiasis while on vacation and got really weak from severe diarrhea but he was hesitant to be brought to ER thinking that it would be like in US. But I insisted and drove him to the ER of one of the affluent hospitals at past midnight and he got medical attention right away. He was also amazed at how there was a pathologist at that time and diagnosed what he had right away. So we were at the ER for maybe 2 hours and he came home feeling better.

Garage Sale Hopping

My study schedule got screwed up Friday night till Saturday morning, the system acted up and I couldn't access the page I wanted. So what better thing to do but to just join my two boys in their fishing escapade. But first, my girlfriend Lea called up and asked me if I want to go garage sale hopping with her. Well, since my two boys are not going fishing till early afternoon yet, I saw no problem spending the morning with her, after all its been a while since we hanged out together. So I invited her over to the house, we had breakfast then headed out for our search. I thought I would just accompany Lea but I ended up spending too and more than her! I spent $50 bucks for a set of 4 slightly used Samsonite luggage; a set of 2 hanging organizer for kids' stuffs; a summer hat for boys; a wood puzzle; and a never been used foot spa. What a great deal! We had a great fun.

Dexter Keeps Serving Up Killer TV

Guest post from: Jeromy Haney

Dexter may very well be the most consistent show on television. While others have suffered from lackluster seasons here and there, America's favorite serial killer continues to turn in year after year of killer (pun intended) direct TV satellite packages. Whether its watching Michael C. Hall help Julia Style's tortured character Lumin come to terms with her agonies or gleefully chuckling while John Lithgow chews the scenery, switching the satellite tv over to Showtime and indulging in Dexter's activities is now my favorite pastime.

The Miami-set show is brimming with characters who were interesting during the first season but now feel like family. Jennifer Carpenter plays Dexter's sister Debra, and steals every scene she shows up in. Her love life is one of the show's most entertaining facets, as she frequently ends up in relationships that are destined to reach a bad end.

Season four ended with one of the most shocking finales in television history, and I doubted that the writers could ever top it. I was happily proved wrong as soon as season five got into full swing. It proved as entertaining as every other season since the show's beginning.

With Dexter confirmed for a sixth season, I'm already looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Dex and the rest of the stellar cast.

Missing Family Weekends

Ahh, I'm so overwhelmed with topics to read before my finals! If only I had more time I would squeeze in a bit of relaxation in between modules. I'm so stressed out. But the way the situations are at the moment, there's not a glimpse of fun time at the horizon. But I'm just being positive and always looking at the bright side of things. What's a little sacrifice when the end result of all the hardwork is very promising right?

The usual family weekend escapade can wait, just for me anyways. Actually I've been missing-in-action for the past weekends, it was always my boys who were going out together, which is fine by me. At least they can bond and do boy stuffs together. Last weekend they went to Walmart to buy fishing gears and then afterwards hb took our son to a birthday party at the arcade. The week before that they were also at the same arcade then spent the rest of the afternoon at a play area. This weekend my hb will take our son fishing and the little guy is really getting excited. Next time they might do pingpong, but I'm afraid the little guy is not big enough to reach the ping pong table but we'll see. I miss spending the weekends with them but I have different priorities at the moment.

What's For Vacation

At the rate my online schedule is going, it's not probable that we could go farther during the school's spring break time. I know my hb and I have talked about joining my bff and her family when they go to Washington DC but I'm afraid I have to back out this time. It would have been nice to visit DC, I haven't been there actually. But we just probably stick around town so I can still finish on deadline with my online course. Anyway, we can still go to Boston and take the Duck Tours. For two years in a row we had planned of taking that tours but for some reasons something always came up and the plan got canceled.

By summer time, my course will all get done so then I could really enjoy a vacation. I really need a long relaxing vacation by that time. I'm not sure what's in the vacation can this year. Last year we had a fabulous one when we went to England and Italy. The little guy had the most fun. Thank God for his trendy stroller just like the uppababy vista, my hb and I were still able to enjoy sightseeing in Italy even when the little guy was exhausted and wanted to crash right away. My hb is eyeing to go on camping this year and do some fishing too. We will explore the nature this time.
